Finding "The One"

Last Saturday I went shopping with two of my wonderful maids, Rachel and Nicole. We went to Bridal Couture in Addison and also Terry Costa. The former was a great experience with great customer service and the latter was...meh. I haven't completely made up my mind, but the second dress I tried on at Bridal Couture I think will be "the one." All of the dresses I tried on afterwards just didn't compare to "Number 2," as Nicole and Rachel kept calling it. I am going to try on some more this weekend, just to be sure.

We also looked at bridesmaid dress. Nicole did the honor of being the dress model. The picture above is one of our favorites (jk). Finding the right bridesmaids dresses is going to be a more challenging than I thought. In addition to the many opinions and body types to consider, I am kind of bridezilla-ish when it comes to the color. Just plain navy isn't what I've envisioned. It needs to be lighter than navy, but not veer into royal blue territory. Psycho, I know.

With everything so up in the air, Greg and I have found "the one" for us, though. We are going to compete in the Texas Man Olympic-distance Triathlon on May 17th (my 26th Birthday). We decided on this one a few weeks ago and got started on mapping out our training plans this week. For my last three triathlons, which were sprint distances, I used the training plan from Beginner Triathlete. I think this time we are going to do a 13-week program from a book called Triathloning for Ordinary Mortals. We won't start officially training until February, but we both have some preliminary work to do in order to get a solid base to start the program.

So the lesson here is finding "the one" isn't always... easy?

A Blessed What?

Here are some interesting pictures I snapped on our way to East Texas for Christmas with my Dad's family...

A Barack-esque Santa in a Corvette in front of the Delux Inn

The Holy Family in front of a BBQ joint in somewhere along I-20 (notice how they are placed ever-so-reverently next to the trash can)

Anyways, I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas. I will be off work from Christmas Eve until New Year's Day! Woo hoo! After a few days of running around getting to all the family Christmas gatherings, Greg and I are going to head back to his apartment to relax for a whole week.

And by relax I mean:
Go to the King Tut exhibit at the DMA
Take a course in "Crossfit" fundamentals
Make Indian food for the first time ever
See a movie
Try on wedding dresses!!
Go out for a special New Years Eve dinner date

Should be interesting holiday.

So, in the words of the proprietress of "Herbal Moon" (the organic wiccan beauty-product shoppe Greg and I wandered into)...

Have a blessed YULE!

So many things to decide

Last Tuesday my mom and I met with a potential photographer. Her name is Anne Griffin. She is a portrait photographer and also does weddings. Her partner, Robert, is a sports photojournalist so I think they will make a good team. The meeting went very well. I love her work and I think I would really like working with her.

Finally, after much run-around are getting very very close to deciding on the reception venue and I am super super excited. I will talk about it when things are finalized.

So far, the only thing set in stone I know right now is that the date will be July 18, 2009 at St. Ann in Coppell. Greg and I are members of St. Ann and we really love going. It is also where Greg went through RCIA and got confirmed, so getting married in this church is really special to us. Here's a shot of the altar in the chapel. I love it.

Inspiration

This weekend we went out to White Rock and watched brother Doug and girlfriend Mary run the White Rock Marathon. It was super super windy out, but the weather was nice.
I was sooo proud of how awesome they did! They are a great team.

Also, I believe
homemade signs=love. Watching the marathoners was very inspirational for me. I have been out of commission for a few weeks of working out due to sickness and school mania. Pretty much only getting in "maintenance" workouts (which means flipping through US weekly for 30 min. on the stair mill). Seeing people so happy to cross the finish line made me hungry to cross one. Greg and I went for an easy 30 minute run later in the evening and we felt good about it.

Right now the desire to run a marathon hasn't struck me. I am waiting to "mature" a bit. Once I get past 7 or 8 miles it just doesn't seem fun or relaxing FOR ME anymore. However, I do know that I need to be training for something otherwise I'll go crazy. I think I am going to look for a 10k....

p.s. Did I mention how much Doug and Mary ROCK!!

One

I have been wanting to start a blog for a while. Mostly because blogs are a great way to publicly display self-infatuation (just kidding... mostly). I have been hesitant to take the plunge, because I haven't had a cohesive or compelling subject matter aside from my general awesomeness (just kidding... mostly). But now, I do. Because I am getting married!!!

Face facts: There are a MILLION wedding blogs out there. They are all a little different and have their own spin. So this is my spin.

I am going to train for and complete an Olympic distance triathlon, which will take place 2 months before the wedding. Hence the name, TRI the Knot. I can never resist a good play on words... or a reviving a tired cliche.

More information to follow about:
the wedding
the tri
the guy
the school
the new digs
and whatever I am cooking.

Thanks for visiting!
